Surrounded, But Secure

Psalm 125

1 Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion,
which cannot be shaken but endures forever.

2 As the mountains surround Jerusalem,
so the Lord surrounds his people both now and forevermore.

3 The scepter of the wicked will not remain over the land allotted to the righteous,
for then the righteous might use their hands to do evil.

Reflection

In verse 3, God reminds us that He will not allow the wicked to have control over the lives of the righteous forever, because their influence could lead the righteous away from what is right.

This shows us that God knows the unfair and difficult situations we face, and He will not allow them to rule over us forever.

When we completely trust in Him, we can have confidence that He is always around us and protecting us, just as verses 1 and 2 describe. Even when we are surrounded by difficult circumstances, God will not abandon us or allow us to remain in situations that pull us away from Him. He will provide a way out and guide us toward what is right.
