After eating the Gospel according to Mark last week, the Lord gave me a feast from the Epistle of James this week. And today… James and I had a lil reunion!
I deliberately didn’t eat any other chapter today because I wanted to give this time fully to James. I went through all 5 chapters again, reread the 5 SELAHs I had written, and revisited what the Precious Holy Spirit had spoken to me through His Word.
And honestly? WHAT A MEAL! As I went through James again, I was like… WHOA
It’s crazy how the same word can hit you differently when you come back to it. Almost every chapter made me pause and look at myself.
James 1 reminded me not to just HEAR the Word, but to DO it. I don’t want to be someone who reads the Bible, gets excited, highlights everything, and then… nothing changes in my life.
James 2 reminded me that faith cannot just stay in my words. It has to be VISIBLE. What I believe should actually affect the way I live.
James 3… ahhh. My tongue! The precious Holy Spirit really made me look at my words again. How easily can I hurt someone without even realising it? And the wisdom from above - pure, peace-loving, gentle, full of mercy and good fruit… Oh, how much I still need to grow in these things!
James 4 made me examine my heart. Am I becoming too comfortable with the world, or am I actually drawing nearer to God?
I love this verse- "Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you" .
And James 5 reminded me to WAIT. PRAY. ENDURE. Like the farmer waiting for the precious fruit of the earth. I may not see what God is doing, but that doesn’t mean He isn’t doing something. I want to learn to trust him even in the waiting.
And when I put all five chapters together, one thing became so clear to me... faith was never meant to stay in my Bible. It has to show up in my LIFE.
And this is where CHRISTOVERT comes in for me! Becoming like Jesus isn’t just about knowing more Scripture, having Christian vocabulary, or looking "spiritual." It is the Precious Holy Spirit transforming me from the inside out! my words, actions, relationships, desires, reactions, prayers, waiting… ALL of it.
And honestly, I’m not there yet. Not even close. But I LONG to be. I long for Jesus to become so evident in me that my life itself begins to look like him. I want my responses to look like Jesus, my love to look like Jesus, my humility to look like Jesus, my faith to look like Jesus. I want Christlikeness to become more than something I admire... I want it to become who I am becoming!!
Abba, I don’t want to just collect Bible knowledge. I want Your Word to become LIFE in me. I want my faith to be visible. I want Jesus to be seen in me.
Precious Holy Spirit, keep transforming me into the image of my beloved Jesus. Help me not just to hear, but to LIVE. And help the readers as well.
Father God, I Love You!
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Your quiet time isn't just for you.
