Reference: John 1:35-51
Two disciples of John the Baptist, when they heard about Jesus, started following Him. When Jesus asked them why they were seeking Him, they replied by asking where Jesus stayed. He said to them, "Come and see” (John 1:39). They came and saw and remained with Jesus that day. One of those disciples was Andrew. Afterwards, Andrew brought his brother Simon Peter to Jesus. Later, we see that Andrew became one among the super apostles.
Next, after Philip was called by Jesus to follow Him, we see Philip going to Nathanael and telling him about Jesus, who is the Messiah. But Nathanael was in disbelief. To this, Philip tells him, "Come and see" (John 1:46). Thus, they set out to meet Jesus.
As Nathanael comes to see Jesus, an amazing encounter happens. Jesus recognized Nathanael from a distance. When Nathanael asks how Jesus knows him, Jesus answers him by saying, "Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you” (John 1:48). When Nathanael saw that Jesus had just revealed something that only Philip and Nathanael knew, he was amazed at this and believed that indeed Jesus was the Messiah.
Now, what if Andrew and Nathanael had not accepted their invitation to come and see Jesus? Had they met Jesus – the Messiah, the Light of the world in whom we have life? Had their lives been transformed?
How many times have we rejected this invitation? How many times have we resisted that transformation in our lives, only to continue in ways that we know would destroy us?
Will you come and see Jesus today? Will you obey what He has already asked you to? Will you sit with the Bible and meditate on His Word? Will you sit in prayer with an intention to know Him more?
Will you come and see Him today? This encounter will transform your life!
Your quiet time isn't just for you.
